Atelier de cuisine des plantes sauvages à Utopaille
Dimanche 22 avril, 10H à Utopaille (23800 La Celle Dunoise)

Maria et Bénédicte sont très intéressées par l'utilisation et la cuisine des plantes sauvages. C’est pourquoi elles vous proposent de venir passer une demi-journée à Utopaille le dimanche 22 avril pour les découvrir et les cuisiner ensemble. Voici le programme:

10h00 : accueil à Utopaille
10h30 : départ au jardin sauvage pour faire la cueillette. Maria vous guidera pour cueillir en toute sécurité et partager ses connaissances
12h : retour en cuisine pour préparer le repas à partir des cueillettes
13h30 : repas pris en commun

Une participation libre vous sera demandée pour couvrir les frais relatifs au repas et remercier Maria pour le temps qu’elle nous aura consacré. Le groupe est limité à 10 personnes, par ordre d’inscription en utilisant le formulaire de contact du site utopaille.fr  (Il reste 4 places). Venez avec vos carnets pour prendre des notes, voire dessiner les belles sauvages. Eventuellement ciseaux et gants pourront être utiles...

Venez nombreux.uses pour soutenir les étudiants du Ecotroc23 et un moment de rencontre sympa entre écolos!

Wild at heart

Getting tunnels and greenhouses ready for the new season..... wonderful illustration of the vitality of Nature's bounty, a few relatively feeble cultivated salads survived the icy blast, and right next to them a ready to eat mesclun of vitamins.

March minimalism

I'm often asked, usually by city visitors, "what's it like in Winter?". 

Generally this means the difficult-to-imagine contrast to summer's opulence of garden profusion, and a house full of guests.  

When is 'winter', especially with climate change fluctuations?!

 The colder it is, there is more sculptural embelishment of a leaf-less landscape with snow and ice.

I find the most reduced, naked time of year is just now. Snowdrops, crocusses, even first daffodils have flowered, aswell as hazels and plenty other delicate and subtle blooms...yet it's as though the energy recoils, compresses and retracts, to erupt  in an explosion of growth, flowering, perfume and song in just the next couple of weeks.

What a joy to open doors and windows again, letting in sunshine and a breath of spring!
Just a few days ago, everything was frozen under the coldest 24 hours of winter (-14°C with wind chill), the coldest for the last 5 years.
 Hopefully there has been enough chill days that the fruit trees will be productive again after 2 years 'rest' (and the destructive late frosts).
One plucky daffodil started to flower mid Feb, and just about survived the freeze to bloom for 1st March...with this flush of warmth, many others will soon follow.

Wild colchique crocusses started flowering mid-Jan, overtaking the snowdrops....a few have re-started to flower in this clement thaw.
Time to get sowing again, clean windows and clear the lawns of logs and cuttings that can hang about for months.

After more than 30 years of gardening, the bird-song signs of spring awakening are still as inspiring and re-energising to this empassioned gardener as in childhood days with promise of new season adventure and activity.
